Imagine not knowing the slightest bit about the clothing you are wearing. You ask brands why they produce so intransparently and with so many negative consequences, but only get the same, weak excuses:
“It’s too expensive! This is how we always do it! The ‘market’ is not asking for it! There is no other way!”

The fashion industry with its giant fashion companies producing fast fashion, is one of the biggest polluters on the planet. Clothing has become comparable to a plastic bag; only briefly used, then disregarded and exchanged for a new one without much thought. How have we become so disconnected? Because so much of this information is deliberately withheld by so many big players in the fashion industry.

About time we take matters into our own hands!

“The best way to expose fast fashion and the big players is by showing them that a true alternative is already out there!”

back to 2020.

Ragnarøk has never been an ordinary clothing company. Everything started in 2020 as an idea, and with a group of young visionaries, keen to show the world that there is a better way! From hours of dedicated research, trials, and collaborations to making recycled face masks with volunteers to the production of our very own prototypes and MVPs: It led us to where we are today.

We created a company that leads the way to an alternative industry, where clothing is appreciated for its value and not simply reduced to its price. Where the people involved in making it are cherished and treated fairly. Where the planet that makes all this possible is respected and regenerated.

Okay, we know what you might think now: this all sounds very cheesy right? Right. So how do we make sure we stay true to our own ideas? By always following our principles, guiding us in our quest to fulfil our mission and determining how we do things. Check them out below!

We intentionally chose honesty over transparency as we noticed so many brands are aiming (at least partly) at transparency in their communication, but completely leave out honesty. Things are called ‘sustainable’, ‘circular’ and ‘good’ without truly being any of these things. We want to put an end to widespread sugar-coating and the spread of wrong claims that in the end make everything more blurry, confusing and fake. It is time to cut the bullsh*t, call out greenwashing and reclaim the true meaning of circularity and sustainability!

Co-creation summarizes Ragnarøk’s approach to working with others, no matter their role in our value chain. We believe in encountering potential partners on an equal footing and with openness, as this guarantees a trustful relationship and the best way forward in creating the best possible solutions for the challenges of tomorrow. On top of that, we strongly believe that the economy of the future can only be built through sharing information, working together and joining forces!

And finally, the urgent need for regeneration. Humanity has deteriorated the planet’s health in such dramatic speed that we are simply running out of time. Reducing the harm we inflict on nature can only be the first step in a much more holistic approach to climate change mitigation. Only by truthfully facing the true cost of our production and of overall (over-) consumption, we can introduce the right steps that help our planet heal. There is no time to lose, so let's get started right away!

NICE (‘Noordelijk Innovatielab Circulaire Economie’) is the place in the Netherlands where young people can work on issues related to the circular economy. In collaboration with NICE, we are able to work on the future of Ragnarøk and creating a better fashion industry!

NICE MOVES is co-financed by the Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland (SNN), Ruimtelijk Economisch Programma & Provincie Drenthe.
